Valley native John Hirshcbeck named crew chief for World Series

Posted: Updated:

POLAND, Ohio - When the Cardinals and Red Sox open the World Series tomorrow night, there will once again be a valley connection right in the middle of the series.

Poland's John Hirschbeck was named crew chief for the series and will be the home plate umpire in game one on Wednesday night in Boston.

This is Hirschbeck's fourth fall classic assignment in a career that spans more than 30 years.

Hirschbeck also worked this summer's all star game.

The crew will also wear the initials "WB" on their sleeves in memory of Valley native and fellow big league umpire Wally bell who passed away last week.
