YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A woman is in custody and a man is in the hospital after an argument got out of hand on the city's south side.

Police responded to this home on East Philadelphia Avenue around 1:30 Thursday morning.

According to a release, 50-year-old Jorge Perez was intoxicated when police approached him. Perez said his girlfriend, 68-year-old Shirley Starks, stabbed him in the arm twice while he was sleeping.

Perez stated that there was a brief struggle before Starks allegedly hit him in the head with a hammer and a rod iron skillet.

Starks was handcuffed on the scene and taken into police custody.
