High tech trucks ready to battle winter roads in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties

Posted: Updated:

CORTLAND, Ohio - As the snow began to fall in Trumbull County, the Ohio Department of Transportation was announcing that it's ready for winter's onslaught in the snow belt.

At a Thursday morning press conference, ODOT displayed it's fleet of snow plows and salt trucks parked at the department's district four garage in Cortland.

ODOT says it is responsible for removing ice and snow from 4,168 miles of roadways in a six county area, including Trumbull and Mahoning.

The plows and salt trucks are equipped with digital equipment, allowing them to adapt to varying weather conditions.

ODOT is also giving all drivers a refresher course on snow and ice removal.

The state should have plenty of salt on hand this season. Salt prices have been cut in half from previous years, saving the department $20-million.
