Rugby players help capture YSU robbery suspect

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Members of a rugby club played a part in helping Youngstown police capture a teen suspected of taking part in an armed robbery on the YSU campus.

A police report filed by YPD officer William Burton, says he was off duty on Tuesday practicing with the Youngstown Steel Valley Rugby Club when he spotted a young male jump from a wall behind a house near the MVR Club on Walnut Street.

When the teen began running across Harrison Field, the rugby team saw that the boy was being pursued by police.

Burton says he and his team mates chased the teen and surrounded him on Adams Street.

YPD officers arrived on the scene and arrested the suspect.

The team learned later that the suspect, Isreal Graham, allegedly took part in the armed robbery of a woman in the M2 parking deck on Lincoln Avenue just moments before.

A second teen suspect was arrested the following day.
