Cafaro Company to move headquarters

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - After half a century in Youngstown, the Cafaro Company is planning to move it's corporate headquarters out of the city.

The Cafaro building on Belmont Avenue has been a fixture on the north side since the early 1960's. A company spokesman says a move to a more undated facility has been talked about for some time.

"The building we're in right now was built in 1965.  By modern standards, it's antiquated, it's not energy efficient, it doesn't have enough room for us at this point. We've been thinking for a long while about moving our corporate headquarters" said spokesman company Joe Bell.

Bell says one of the preferred new locations would be the Eastwood Mall Complex in Niles, which is the Cafaro Company's largest retail property.

The company recently filed for a demolition permit for some unused mall space next to the new hotel which is currently under construction.

Bell says the move is anticipated within the next 24 months.  It would take 188 jobs out of Youngstown.
