Campbell K9 cruiser crashes

Posted: Updated:

CAMPBELL, Ohio - Campbell police are investigating a K9 cruiser crash involving one of their own officers Friday night.

Patrolman Eric Manning was in pursuit on 422 westbound, also known as the Madison Avenue Expressway, when his cruiser lost control and hit two guard rails just before the Crescent Street exit.

Officer Manning was in pursuit of a vehicle for a traffic violation, which started on McCartney Road near Sixth Street around 11:20 p.m. The pursuit continued onto the Madison Avenue Expressway when the suspect began to accelerate at a high rate of speed.

Investigators believe Officer Manning may have hit a metal expansion gap in the bridge, causing him to lose control of the cruiser, and crash into the median wall.

Officer Manning was taken to the hospital for evaluation. A K9 in the vehicle was unharmed in the crash. Officer Manning was working as part of the Drug Interdiction Unit Friday night.

Campbell Police are still investigating the crash.
