NHL's 2015 All-Star weekend awarded to Columbus

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The National Hockey League has announced that Columbus will host the 2015 All-Star Game and skills competitions.

The weekend of events is set for Jan. 24-25, 2015.

The announcement was made by NHL Commissioner Gary Barnett and Blue Jackets director of hockey operations John Davidson midway through the first period of Columbus' game Saturday night against Pittsburgh.

Columbus was originally awarded the 2013 All-Star weekend but that was canceled due to the lockout. There is no All-Star game in 2014 because of the Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Columbus will become the third straight first-time host of the NHL's big weekend, following Raleigh, N.C., in 2011, and Ottawa in 2012.
