Hall of Famer Michael Irvin gives speech to Browns

Posted: Updated:

BEREA, Ohio (AP) - Hall of Famer Michael Irvin says he sees championship potential in the Browns.

Irvin spoke for 80 minutes to Cleveland's players on Wednesday before the team practiced for the final time during its bye week. A three-time Super Bowl champion, Irvin said he sees similarities between the Browns and the teams he played on at the start of his career in Dallas. Irvin told the Browns it was up to them to pull together if they want to win a title.

Irvin was asked to speak to the team by Browns coach Rob Chudzinksi, a college teammate at Miami.

Irvin has been a mentor for the past two years to Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon, whom he says is a "phenomenal talent." Gordon said Irvin's speech had an impact on the Browns, who will play at first-place Cincinnati after their bye.
