Local family remembers daughter with YSU scholarship

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A local family remembers a loved one by helping six YSU students.

The eleventh annual Danielle Marie Hodge scholarship dinner was held Friday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Proceeds from the dinner helped fund scholarships for six YSU students this year. The six awards, totaling $5,000, went to students Christina Christmas, Vanessa Tortora, Erika Clement, Megan Tirabassi, John O'Neill and Christopher DeChellis.

Over twenty scholarships have been given out since the dinner started 11 years ago, and the endowment has reached more than $120,000.

Hodge's parents and family established the fund through the YSU Foundation after she died in a car accident in December 2002.
