Blaze destroys storage building in Johnson Township

Posted: Updated:

JOHNSTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Fire destroyed a large storage shed Friday afternoon.

Firefighters were alerted to the fire around 1:00 p.m. when drivers on nearby route 11 reported smoke, possibly coming from a grass fire.

Instead, it turned out that the smoke was pouring from a shed on the 7000 block of Love Warner Road.

Crews arriving on the scene reported that the structure was nearly burned to the ground.

No one was injured, but power equipment inside the building was destroyed.

Johnston Township Assistant Fire Chief Jim Stowers tells 21 News that he believes the fire started from a heat lamp being used to keep some newborn puppies warm. The puppies were not injured.

Kinsman and Burghill-Vernon fire departments assisted Johnston fire crews.
