Shoppers head out to local stores across Valley Thanksgiving night

Posted: Updated:

NILES, Ohio - Target stores also opened at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Some customers in Niles braved the temperatures for more than 12 hours, waiting for the sale to begin.

Their wait was made a little more pleasant, while a band played in the parking lot and hot coffee was passed out.

Walmart stores also opened earlier than last year. Shoppers had a hard time finding a parking space at stores in Liberty and in Boardman. Cars were parked bumper to bumper.

Walmart offered a one-hour in-stock guarantee. Promising customers if select items sold out in the first hour, the item would be shipped to the store before Christmas.

Shopping began sooner at Toys R' Us in Niles this year, with doors opening at 5 p.m. By 6 p.m. the store manager predicted more than 400 customers had already come through the doors.
