Two Bodies found in Mercer County identified

Posted: Updated:

SOUTH PYMATUNING TWP., Pa. - Police and the Coroner are investigating the discovery of two bodies found at separate locations in Hermitage and South Pymatuning Township.

Just before 3 o'clock Monday afternoon, police received a call from a South Pymatuning Township home where the caller stated he killed someone in self defense. The caller then also told police he was headed to St. Mary's Cemetery in Hermitage and they could find him there.

According to Sgt. Richard Christoff with South Pymatuning Twp. Police, they responded to the home on Buckeye Drive where they found the body of  53 year-old Michael Eugene DeLong. They say DeLong died as a result of a single gunshot wound to the back.

Meanwhile, Christoff says Hermitage police responded to the nearby cemetery where they found the body of 50 year-old Sandy Joseph Hoffman who they say died as a result of a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Police would not say whether or not his wounds were self inflicted. But say the deaths appear to be an isolated incident.

Authorities say the two men were roommates. And as far as they know the two had no history of altercations.

Autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday. South Pymatuning Twp. Police and Hermitage Police continue their joint investigation into the men's relationship and the circumstances surrounding both deaths.
