Civics day at Poland High School brings out elected officials

Posted: Updated:

POLAND, Ohio - Civics Day is a time when high school students learn more about how government works.

At Poland High School on Monday, government students had the opportunity to hear and ask questions of elected officials at all levels of government, including Congressman Tim Ryan.

"Meeting people that are actually in those jobs, doing those things as local representatives all the way to the federal government with Mr. Ryan coming is a huge thing for all of us," said Kevin Snyder, principal at Poland High School.

The students, who will soon be eligible voters, also heard from Mahoning County Commissioner Anthony Traficanti and State Representative Ron Gerberry on the many functions of government.
