Steelers optimistic but realistic after romp

Posted: Updated:

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Steelers are playing their best football of the season, but say they understand it may be too little, too late.

The Steelers dominated the Cincinnati Bengals in a 30-20 victory on Sunday night, keeping Pittsburgh's faint postseason hopes alive for at least another week. The Steelers (6-8) raced to an early 21-point lead and cruised while keeping Cincinnati (9-5) and its high-flying offense in check.

Cornerback Ike Taylor says he knew all along Pittsburgh was a good team, just an inconsistent one. He doesn't think the team will spend a lot of time wishing it had gotten its act together earlier. Taylor said every season has its ups and downs, and Pittsburgh's downs came early.

The Steelers play in Green Bay next weekend.
