Students from Warren help to make Christmas brighter for children in the hospital

Posted: Updated:

BOARDMAN TWP., Ohio - Kids forced to spend the holidays at the hospital will have a happier day thanks to a donation from a local student organization.

Students from Inspiring Minds donated over $1,000 in gifts to the Akron Children's Hospital in Boardman.

Each teen raised $60 to buy gifts to be given to patients over Christmas.

Since 2006, Inspiring Minds has offered after school programs designed to help local students prepare for college.

"I think a lot of times when you're going through certain things in your life it's so easy to look at you and your own situation and its good for them to realize that there are people out here sometimes struggling even more than them. The other thing is we are trying to make our community better and we think kids at an early age need to learn that in order for the community to get better you need also have to give back as well," said Deryck Toles from Inspiring Minds.

Inspiring Minds is based out of Warren. Twenty-five teens took part in Thursday's toy drop off.
