Christmas is nigh! That said, we have a few tips to make the season a little more hassle free.

1. Wrap Christmas lights around a hanger to keep them from getting tangled

Admit it, you nearly blew a gasket trying to untangle them this year. In the spirit of thinking ahead, we suggest wrapping your Christmas lights around an old clothes hanger to keep them neat and organized. As an added bonus, doing this also makes the lights easier to store, since they take up far less space

2. Keep large batches of hot drinks at the perfect temperature with a crock pot

If you're planning on entertaining a large group of friends and relatives this holiday season, you can easily keep a large vat of drinks warm with a crock pot. It's perfect for hot cocoa (with peppermint schnapps), apple cider (with cinnamon whiskey), or even large servings of coffee or tea in the morning.

3. Make the whole house smell festive by boiling stuff on the stove

You could spend a boatload on scented candles and holiday Febreze to cover  up all the funky smells in your apartment, but why do that when you can easily scent your entire house with a pot of water and your stove? Just toss in anything that smells good – lemons and rosemary, cinnamon sticks, pine needles – and bring it to a simmer. Within a few minutes your pad should smell festive.

4. Use old toilet paper rolls to keep wrapping paper from unraveling

Just cut ‘em lengthwise up the middle and you'll instantly have a simple, low-cost clasp to keep the rolls from unraveling. If you're worried about the toilet paper rolls making you look like a hobo in front of your friends and family, you can wrap them in a bit of aluminum foil to make them look a bit more festive.

5. Bake pine cones before using them as decorations

Pine cones make fantastic holiday decorations. They're festive, natural, and above all, free (if you paid for pine cones, you're doing it wrong). But before you bring a box full into your house and place them all over your mantle, pop them in the oven for a few minutes to ensure you've murdered any crawling critters that might be holed up inside.

6. Keep your windshield from frosting over with vinegar

With a bit of foresight and preparation, you'll never have to use that busted old window scraper ever again. Just mix three parts vinegar with one part water in a spray bottle. Then head outside with a  towel and give your windows a nice coat of vinegar water. Wipe them down with the towel or squeegee  and in the morning your windshield should be frost free (mostly)
