YSU alum donates $130,000 to Beeghly College of Education

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A Youngstown State University graduate and longtime teacher's gift to the university will help others to follow in his footsteps.

The university announced Tuesday that it has received a $131,000 endowment from James Herr, a 1974 graduate who went on to teach for more than 30 years at Austintown Fitch.

The endowment will be used to set up a "fund for excellence" at the Beeghly College of Education.

Money from the fund will be used to finance study abroad opportunities, international recruiting and other educational opportunities for students in the college.

Herr, who died in August, was an avid traveler, having been to Europe, the Middle East and Japan, among other places.
