Dead man found by Ohio tracks likely hit by train

Posted: Updated:

ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AP) - A coroner in eastern Ohio says a man found dead near some railroad tracks last week likely was hit by a passing train.

Muskingum County coroner Dr. Charles Feicht ruled Monday that "severe blunt trauma" killed 42-year-old Robert E. Cavalear of Zanesville. And, Feicht said, it was probably caused by a train.

Cavalear's body was found near the tracks under a bridge just around midnight Friday by workers on a northbound train in Zanesville, about 60 miles east of Columbus.

The sheriff's office said it is still investigating.

The last time anyone heard from Cavalear was when he left a message on a family member's cellphone that day asking for a ride. Family members said he was known for walking around town.
