Family mourns Ohio boy who drowned in frozen pond

Posted: Updated:

FELICITY, Ohio (AP) - A 9-year-old boy who fell through the ice and drowned in a southwestern Ohio pond over the weekend was being remembered by family members as an adventurer who loved being outside.

The Cincinnati Enquirer identified the boy Monday as Adrian Akers. Authorities said Adrian ventured onto the pond in their village of Felicity on Sunday with his twin sister Kadence and 9-year-old cousin Arianna Palmer.

The ice broke and Adrian and Kadence went in the water. The landowner was able to pull the girl out, but Adrian couldn't swim and slipped under the icy water. Divers recovered his body later.

The property owner had told the children to get off the ice just before the children fell in.

Felicity is about 35 miles southeast of Cincinnati in Clermont County.
