Youngstown woman sentenced for charges related to death of grandson

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A grandmother will not serve any time in jail for her conviction on a charge filed in connection with the shooting death of her four-year-old grandson.

During a sentencing hearing on Tuesday, a judge in Mahoning County Common pleas court placed 52-year-old Pamela Easterly on probation for five years.

Easterly was found guilty of child endangering in November.

Easterly told investigators she was in the living room of her Fairgreen Avenue home on the night of July 7, 2013 when she heard a gunshot from another room that claimed the life of her grandson Raytwon Briggs.

Investigators believe children were playing with the gun, when it went off.

The grand jury that indicted Easterly alleged that she recklessly created a risk to the child's safety by violating her duty to protect him.
