Four people arrested for Calcutta Walmart purse snatching

Posted: Updated:

ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Four people have been charged in connection with the robbery of an elderly woman in the Calcutta Walmart parking lot.

Saint Clair Township Police say a picture posted on the department's Facebook page helped lead them to the suspects.

Acting on a tip, police arrested 22-year-old David Mathes at his place of employment  in Leetonia on Monday.

Shortly afterwards, police and U.S. Marshals arrested 19-year-old Brianne Flaherty, 38-year-old Frank Flaherty at the Shadyside Avenue  home of 39-year-old Gloria Flaherty, who is charged with harboring a fugitive.

According to a police report, a car fitting the description of one owned by Mathes was seen leaving the Walmart parking lot on Sunday, shortly after an 85-year-old West Virginia woman said her purse was ripped from her hands.
