Detroit Auto Show Cruzes into high gear

Posted: Updated:

DETROIT, Michigan - The Detroit Auto Show has shifted in to high gear and 21 News traveled to the Motor City to see the new class of cars competing for your cash.

Just over a three hour drive north west of Youngstown, the Cobo Center is a "car lover's" dream, as the "Motor City" hosts the North American International Auto Show.

Hundreds of cars are on display through Sunday, and you can see everything from futuristic concept cars... to the popular and familiar.

Sales of General Motors vehicles were up more than 7% in 2013, and one of the models leading the way, the Lordstown built Chevy Cruze.

GM sold more than 248,000 Cruzes last year, making it GM's best selling car.

Anthony Fotiu is a Product Analyst, "A lot has to do with the beautiful styling in that class. Things that people aren't used to seeing in a compact segment, are really shining well with the new Cruze. Also the 5-star safety rating. One of the few cars in this segment to get a perfect 5-star."

The Cruze is touted as one of the best as far as fuel economy.

... And for 2014, GM will premier the new turbo diesel Cruze. It was rolled out in a few "test" markets in August.

The new turbo diesel Cruze is the best in it's class according to GM, getting 46 highway miles per gallon.

"The emissions in the new diesels are so good, we've actually reduced tail pipe emissions from it's previous diesel model 90-percent. So the days of having the smell, noisy diesels, those are long gone," Fotiu said.
