Officer assaulted as police break up Youngstown bar brawl

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A 20-year-old Bedford, Ohio woman was arraigned in Youngstown Municipal Court on Tuesday on a charge of assaulting a police officer.

Taylor Ferguson was arrested early Saturday morning after officers responded to what police describe as a large fight with weapons at the Academy Club at 221 Belmont Avenue.

According to the report, as five officers were breaking up several fights, Ferguson came to the aid of a friend who officers were attempting to escort from the bar. Police say Ferguson allegedly struck officer Jay Fletcher in the back with both fists, causing him to stumble out the front door.

Ferguson was handcuffed and spent the long, holiday weekend in the Mahoning County Jail.
