Access Health Mahoning Valley hosting meetings to help people register for Medicaid

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Now that Ohio has expanded Medicaid, 275,000 uninsured residents will be able to receive health coverage.

Access Health Mahoning Valley will hold a series of meetings, beginning Thursday at the Youngstown and Warren City Health Departments to let people know how they can apply for Medicaid coverage.

"We are talking about people over 18, all the way up to the age of 65. For instance, it's about $15,000, a little less than $16,000, for a single person household and then you add about $5,500 per person. So up to maybe $21,000 for a two person household. Those people now can qualify for health insurance through Medicaid," said Access Health Mahoning Valley director Bill Adams.

The first meeting is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon at the Youngstown City Health Department at 345 Oakhill Avenue.  Call 330-373-0703 to sign up.

If you don't qualify for Medicaid, people will be on hand to help with private insurance questions.
