Ohio father convicted of killing infant son

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A 31-year-old Ohio man is facing a life prison sentence after he was convicted of causing injuries to his infant son that led the child's death 10 months later.

Johnnie Crockett III will get the mandatory sentence of life in prison with no parole possibility for 15 years following his convictions of murder and child endangering Tuesday.

Prosecutors said he caused severe injuries to 8-month-old Iszaac Crockett in February 2012. He was the only one home with the baby and other children when he called the baby's mother to say he wasn't breathing. Paramedics restored the child's heartbeat, but he died in December 2012.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that the jury deliberated for more than five hours over two days before convicting Crockett.
