Penn State added as defendant in Paterno v. NCAA

Posted: Updated:

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - The family and estate of Joe Paterno and others are adding Penn State as a "nominal defendant" in a lawsuit against the NCAA over the university's penalties for the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal.

The amended complaint filed Wednesday in county court near State College also provides details about the difficulties Paterno's son and another former Penn State assistant coach have had in finding work.

A statement by Paterno family lawyer Wick Sollers says the lawsuit isn't seeking anything from Penn State.

The university fired Paterno following the 2011 arrest of his longtime former assistant on child sex abuse charges.

The filing comes after a judge said the lawsuit's breach-of-contract claims couldn't continue unless Penn State was named as a party. A Penn State spokesman offered no immediate comment.
