Show dog that fled Austintown accident is found

Posted: Updated:

AUSTINTOWN TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Three people were injured Friday morning when a van carrying show dogs overturned on the ramp from Interstate 80 to southbound Route 11.

Troopers say a Chrysler Sebring driven by Craig Rotz of Boardman made an unsafe lane change and struck a van driven by Janice Butler of Pickerington, Ohio.

Both vehicles went off the road, and the van overturned.

Butler, along with her passengers, Mary McFadden of Pickerington and Mary Jane Szezurez of Warren, were transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital with injuries that are being described as not life threatening.

State troopers say the van was on its way to a dog show in New York. Mahoning County Dog Warden Dave Nelson was called to the scene to secure three of the Afghan Hounds, which were taken to Animal Charity for safe keeping.

A fourth dog that ran away from the crash scene was located later that afternoon in the Mineral Ridge football stadium.

The ramp was closed for approximately 45 minutes. State troopers say they re-opened one lane just after 10:30 a.m.
