Big games for the YSU men and women this weekend

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – As the basketball season continues, the games get bigger and that's the case for both the Youngstown State men's and women's hoop teams this weekend.

Jerry Slocum's club travels to Detroit on Sunday.

They're 4-5 in the conference, which is good for fifth place. With seven league games remaining, they could make a run for that second or third seed, but need to improve in the closing minutes.

"We have to play better basketball in terms of taking care of the basketball and then defending. We gave up, the other night, 18 points off of turnovers," Slocum said.

On the women's side, it's a three horse race right now. Youngstown State, Green Bay and Wright State are all tied for the top spot with Illinois Chicago lurking a half game back. Cleveland State is one game back.

The Lady Penguins play at Oakland on Saturday, a team they beat a couple of weeks ago 79-64.

Following that game, two of their next three games are on the road.
