Earthquake recorded near Greenville

Posted: Updated:

SUGAR GROVE TOWNSHIP, Pa - Seismologists are reporting a 2.2 magnitude earthquake along the Mercer - Crawford County line.

According to the Lamont-Doherty Cooperative Seismographic Network, seismographs detected the temblor at 5:34 p.m. Sunday.

The epicenter was just east of State Route 18 in Sugar Grove Township, approximately four miles north northeast of the borough of Greenville.

An earthquake of this magnitude is considered minor, and no damage was reported.

On December 31, 2011, an 4.0 magnitude earthquake was reported in Youngstown. Some research linked that incident to a now closed brine injection well.
