Fire destroys West Salem Township home

Posted: Updated:

WEST SALEM TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A house fire caused a major traffic headache for Tuesday morning commuters along a busy Mercer County highway.

Fire departments from surrounding communities were called in to help battle flames at a two story home at 168 Clarksville Road.

The first alarm was called in just after five a.m. as West Salem Township fire crews and police had to shut down Route 18 south of Greenville until 8:30.

The home, which was gutted by the fire, had been recently vacated. Investigators say the home is a total loss.

There are no reported injuries. The state fire marshal is trying to determine the cause of the fire.

A fire truck from the Clark fire department was struck by a car south of the fire scene at Edghill Road.
