Ohio man charged with attacking postal worker

Posted: Updated:

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Police say a northeast Ohio man was arrested after attacking a mail carrier who didn't bring a check he was expecting.

Twenty-five-year-old Robert Kiefer allegedly assaulted the 56-year-old postal worker on Saturday, squirting the carrier with his own pepper spray and biting him in the leg. Then, police said, he fought with officers who tried to arrest him.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports that officers found Kiefer and the postal worker in a fight, with a small crowd surrounding the two men.

Police said they finally subdued Kiefer with pepper spray. The postal worker was treated for bite marks and cuts.

Kiefer, facing misdemeanor charges of assault and resisting arrest, remained in jail after being unable to post bond. Online records did not include attorney information.
