Candidates for Mahoning County Auditor taking verbal shots at each other

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The general election is nearly nine months away, but local candidates are already taking shots at each other.

Bill Reese is a Republican candidate for Mahoning County Auditor.

During a press conference on Friday he called out current auditor Michael Sciortino for an apology he made on Thursday regarding a controversial traffic stop last May. Sciortino was later charged with failure to control.

Reese claims Sciortino only publicly apologized for the incident after Reese filed to run for his office.

"Wasn't he indicted? Didn't he have a problem with the sheriff's department? People were demoted, got time off because of his shenanigans. I won't do that," Reese said.

21 News contacted Sciortino for comment. He was traveling out of town with family. He called Reese's comments ridiculous.

Reese is a former Canfield Township Trustee and local business owner with education in engineering and accounting.
