Girard Robotics Team ready for competition

Posted: Updated:

GIRARD, Ohio – The Girard High School Robotics Team is near the end of their six week building period to complete their entire robot.

The build team and their mentors have worked after school and on the weekends.

The RoboCats goals are to design and build a competitive machine that can play a game and beat other schools.

The program gives hands on opportunities for students.

"It's all about inspiring students to go into those fields, pairing them up with real life mentors and showing them what fun science can be and technology," said Judy Barber, head coach for the Girard Robotics Build Team.

"We're going to Troy, New York. That is our first competition, and then we are going to Cleveland the week after and hopefully we get to go to world, which is like the championship for first robotics," said Jalene McClendon, Girard Robotics Build Team member.

Tuesday is the shipping date for the robot they build. The first competition in Troy, New York takes place March 14th and 15th. The Cleveland competition takes place the following weekend.
