Austintown schools expand drug screening

Posted: Updated:

AUSTINTOWN TOWNSHIP, Ohio - The Austintown School district is expanding the drug screening policy for students and staff.

Under the expansion that was recently approved by the Board of Education, any person being recommended to the board for any position within the school district will be required to pass a pre employment drug screening.

In addition, five student athletes will be chosen at random every week to be given a drug screening through Valley Care. Valley Care operates the school clinic that is on campus.

A statement from the district says that the school district is also hoping to expand the drug screening to student parking permits.

School officials say the purpose of the action is to provide students with a healthy, and safe learning environment, as well as to help any students who need it.
