Valley law enforcement learn the latest in crime solving

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Several area law enforcement officers went "inside the tape" to learn the latest in crime solving techniques.

Over the past three days, detectives and officers from 10 different departments learned new homicide investigative techniques from a top expert.

The program is part of in-service training for officers, and was hosted by Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene.

"There's nothing better than to be able to review and look over cases that have already been solved and hopefully utilize training here out in the field should it happen," said Captain Stephen McGeary, Mahoning County Sheriff's Department.

One of the newest techniques taught to officers was something experts call victimology, a study that can reveal whether the victim knew their attacker or not.
