YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown State football team will have its third defensive coordinator in five years.

21 Sports has learned that Jamie Bryant will be elevated to the position replacing Joe Tresey whose contract expires next week.

Bryant was the special teams coordinator and linebackers coach last year in his first season with the Penguins.

The special teams were much improved under Bryant. They ranked first in the Missouri Valley Conference on kick coverage and second in kickoff return average.

Bryant served as Vanderbilts defensive coordinator for two years and nine total with the Commodores before joining the Penguins staff.
