Valley attorney to withdraw from appeals court race

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Long time valley attorney David Engler tells 21 News that he intends to announce he is ending his campaign for the 7thh District Court of Appeals judgeship.

"That job is the most important job to me and the mere suggestion that somehow this campaign would get in the way of doing that job, I owe that to my clients more than I owe this job to myself," Engler said.

As first reported on WFMJ Weekend Today, Engler said he has not been able to convey his message effectively on the campaign trail.

"I haven't been able to effectively convey the message that my legal experience versus my opponent's legal experience far exceeds his in terms of actual courtroom experience and actual appellate experience before appellate courts throughout Ohio and on the federal level," he said.

Engler's would-be opponent is Anthony Donofrio, who Engler has endorsed.
