Women's empowerment day held in Boardman

Posted: Updated:

BOARDMAN TWP., Ohio - The Bella Nitesh Spiritual Arts & Education Center in Boardman held a free women's empowerment day on Sunday.

The goal of the event is to help keep women from becoming a victim of sexual, physical, emotional, mental, economic, and political violence.

The event was held in conjunction with One Billion Rising for Justice, a global movement to end violence against women and girls.

"We want women to have choices. What we're doing is providing mini education segments. Giving women educational tools so they don't put themselves in situations to be victims," said Deana Tareshawty, The Bella Nitesh Spiritual Arts & Education Center.

Tareshawty says one in three women will be raped, beaten or taken advantage of, so girls and women need goals and to love and respect themselves.

More events are set for March at the center in the Hitchcock Park Office complex in Boardman.
