Campbell community gathers for a pancake breakfast to honor a former teacher

CAMPBELL, Ohio - The Michael "Mickey" Soroka Charitable Foundation hosted it's Stacks for Soroka pancake breakfast at the Palermo Banquet Center in Campbell.

Family and friends of Michael "Mickey" Soroka, a teacher who died suddenly in April 2011 at the age of 49, have been continuing his legacy and love for educating students.

They formed a charitable foundation that provides scholarships to Campbell students who attend Youngstown State University.

Mickey taught upper level math, computer science and multi-media technology courses in the Campbell School District.

Mickey's sister, Denise Mote, said in addition to giving out six scholarships since 2011, the foundation has also given supplies to children in the Campbell public schools.

Mote believes this is a way of reaching more students like her brother always did.
