Pet oxygen masks donated to Trumbull fire departments

Posted: Updated:

CORTLAND, Ohio - It's been a busy winter for firefighters, in Trumbull County and pets almost fell victim to deadly flames twice this season in Warren.

Invisible Fence of Eastern Ohio is donating new life-saving tools to several departments to help better treat pet injuries. The Cortland fire department is among the agencies receiving pet oxygen mask kits. Each kit comes with three different sized masks and corresponding tubes, which connect to oxygen tanks.

The free kits arrive at a good time, as rescuers were recently tasked with trying to treat pet injuries in Warren.

"They had tried to use a human mask and when through a whole tank trying to revive the pet," Jim Plizga, Invisible Fence of Eastern Ohio. "This is going to be more efficient and get the oxygen where it needs to be."

In any emergency situation timing is everything and having access to right masks for man and man's best friend on hand means both have a better chance of getting past their injuries.

"Bringing them out and giving them a fresh oxygen supply may help flush out some of the toxins that they have inhaled," David Rea says, Cortland fire chief.

Invisible Fence of Eastern Ohio has donated to departments throughout the area including Berlin Center, Cortland, Farmington, Howland, Hubbard, Mecca, Mesopotamia, Newton Falls, Niles, Vienna and Weathersfield.
