CECIL, Pa. (AP) - A woman has died and her son was burned when their southwestern Pennsylvania home caught fire, possibly because the man couldn't sleep and had started to do some laundry.
The Washington County coroner says the victim is 64-year-old Margaret Pelc. Her 34-year-old son, Geoffrey, was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital with burns on his hands and back.
Cecil Township Detective Mark Marcucci says Geoffrey Pelc told witnesses he started doing laundry before the fire was reported about 3:15 a.m. Wednesday. A state police fire marshal was investigating that possibility.
The victim's husband, Stephen Pelc, also lived at the home, but was away at work when the fire broke out.
The fire rekindled about 5:45 a.m. hampering efforts to find the woman's body before heavy equipment was used to sift through collapsed portions of the home.
