Southington residents meet about city water

Posted: Updated:

SOUTHINGTON, Ohio - A Trumbull County community is deciding whether it wants well water or city water.

Southington residents gathered at the high school Tuesday night for an informational meeting on a proposal to bring water lines up Route 422.

Seventy to 80 percent of the nearly 200 residents in the area would need to sign a petition to verify their interest in getting a water line before the project could move forward.

"A lot of people on our proposed route of construction have terrible water. State Highway Patrol Barracks, I talked to a patrolman there today and he says he can't even stand the smell of it. The closer you get to the center of Southington, the worse the water gets. In fact, people near the center say there isn't any water," said Stanley Hanes, Southington Water District.

The cost of the project has not yet been determined.
