YORK, Pa. (AP) - A central Pennsylvania prosecutor has withdrawn charges filed two years ago against a man in what authorities called a drug-related slaying a dozen years ago.
Officials in York County said Wednesday that 58-year-old John Ruth III was released Friday from the county prison, where he had been since his February 2012 arrest.
The arrest came nearly a decade after 33-year-old Stacey Farmer was found dead in front of his Windsor Township home in June 2002.
District Attorney Tom Kearney said prosecutors need to do more work on the case, which was scheduled for trial next month, He said the charges can be refiled later.
At the time he was killed, Farmer was facing charges that he had helped a friend cover up the killing of another man.
