Mahoning County Commissioners authorize $50,000 to deal with potholes

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - With more winter weather bearing down on the Valley, the pot-hole repair bill keeps getting bigger.

Mahoning County Commissioners have authorized an emergency resolution to purchase $50,000 worth of hot-cold patching material.

The county engineer says in terms of road damage, this is a year like no other.

"We're going through so much material this year.   The road conditions are worse than we've ever seen, so it's important that we get this material so we can get these holes fixed," said Mahoning County Engineer Patrick Ginetti.

Ginetti says if the weather doesn't break soon, they may have to buy even more material.

The engineer says the county also is adding slag and grit to its road salt to help stretch its salt supply.
