Troopers arrest 555 drivers for OVI in Valley last year

WARREN, Ohio - The Ohio Highway Patrol says it's focus on impaired driving enforcement are paying off.  For the second year in a row trooper issued more than 24,000 citations for operating a vehicle under the influence.

Last year, state troopers from the Warren Post, arrested 266 impaired drivers in Trumbull County. 155 arrests were made in Mahoning County. 134 drivers were charged in Columbiana County.

OVI-related crashes accounted for 33 percent of all fatal crashes in Ohio. This is down from an average of 43 percent from the 2010-2012 time periods.

There were 11,226 OVI-related crashes on Ohio roadways, killing 330 and injuring 6,843.

Speed was a contributing factor in 60 percent of all OVI-related crashes.

Franklin, Hamilton and Cuyahoga Counties accounted for nearly one-in-four OVI related crashes in 2013. Franklin County has led the state in OVI-related crashes for the last five years..

    One man is dead after an accident on Shields Road in Canfield.  The Canfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said a white Mercedes Benz SUV was going west on Sheilds Road at 3 am on Saturday when it failed to negotiate a curve.  The SUV then drove off of the right side of the road, hit a tree and overturned.  One of the vehicle's occupants was taken to St. Elizabeth's in Austintown, where he was pronounced dead.  The crash is being investigated by th...
