Berlin Center home receives a package with suspicious powder

BERLIN CENTER, Ohio - Hazmat crews are called to a home in Berlin Center to investigate a suspicious powder.

Sgt. Larry McLaughlin with the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department says the woman who lives at the home on Bedell Road received a package she originally sent to her son in California- inside the returned package wasn't what she sent, instead she found an unknown white powder.

"The son never received anything from the mother and it ultimately ended up coming back with the address was bad, which in fact the address wasn't bad," said McLaughlin.

The suspicious white powder was determined to be a small amount of cocaine.

Authorities say the home in Berlin Center has no history of drug activity.

"They are a victim of a scam or something, something is going on here which we are going to look into," said McLaughlin.

Authorities say they will begin by investigating the address on the envelope and see where it leads.

The package was last post marked in Cleveland.
