Valley celebrates start of the Lenten season

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Wednesday was Ash Wednesday and the start of the Lenten season.

Catholics and other Christians gathered for services and to receive ashes on their forehead.

The ashes symbolize humankind's frailty and the brevity of life.

Ash Wednesday is the day after Mardi Gras and marks 44 days until Easter.
