Truck stop adds CNG fueling pumps

WEATHERSFIELD TWP., Ohio - At the Mr. Fuel service center in Weathersfield Township, workers are preparing the site where compressed natural gas will be processed and dispensed along side the diesel pumps.

It's a two-million dollar investment by IGS-CNG Energy.

"In about three months time, roughly June of 2014 is our planned opening date, we will have CNG available on site at lanes 13 and 14 of the Mr. Fuel location, " said company spokesman Dave Mrowzinski.

CNG equipped vehicles cost more, but are not limited to natural gas. A button on the dashboard can make a seamless switch back to the gasoline tank if you run low on CNG.

Mrowzinski says there is an emerging demand for CNG especially among business owners looking to reduce fuel costs.

"Typically we see a savings of between 30 to 50% over diesel.  We anticipate the cost at this location to open somewhere between $2.10 and $2.30," Mrowzinski said.

IGS believes that being cheaper, cleaner and produced domestically will drive the demand for CNG and it has plans for more fueling stations.

"So we're hoping that by building the station today, even though there are limited fleets in the area that run on CNG,  this station will be the catalyst to allow for local fleets and  local residents to convert to CNG," Mrowzinski said.

The Ohio House will considering legislation that would provide tax breaks and incentives for using CNG vehicles.
