Youngstown police and fire departments attempt to rescue a deer on icy Lake Glacier

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A little excitement for a deer and Youngstown police and fire officials on Tuesday morning.

A deer felt adventurous and wondered out onto Lake Glacier, but once out on the frozen lake, the deer was stranded, not being able to get up and wonder off.

That's when one brave firefighter put on a special thermal suit and went out to help.

"My intention was to go out to lasso the deer and to pull him off the ice because he was injured. But as I got closer to him, I guess he decided he didn't want that. He managed to limp away on three legs and got off the lake himself," said Captain Baroy Finley.

Captain Finley tells 21 News this isn't the first time he has used the special "Ice Commander Suit," but it is the first time he's used it to save an animal.
