Boardman theatre claims landlord locked them out

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A 21 year run by the Movies Eight in Boardman is ending with a lawsuit against the theatre's landlord.

Cinemark, which operated the second run theatre in the Shops at Boardman Park, has filed a civil suit in federal court against the shopping plaza's owner, Handel Investments.

Cinemark claims that it's personnel went to the theatre on Sunday to discover that the locks had been changed.

Cinemark claims that under terms of the lease, they still should have had access to the theatre that day, even though they had announced plans to shut down operations.

The suit asks a judge to allow Cinemark access to it's equipment and damages in excess of $75,000.

Cinemark announced it was closing Movies Eight because customers were going to other theatres.
